HOME DEFENSE OPTIONS

We love our law enforcement and we hope they're always there to respond to our calls! But what happens during a community-wide crisis? There are a lot of crazies out there! Our local Law enforcement can't be everywhere and help everyone. That's why a plan for Home Defense is necessary.  Here are some home-defense options to consider:

  1. A Big Scary Guard Dog or two - a personal favorite :)
  2. Motion Detector Flood Lights - consider solar powered in a black-out
  3. Home Security Systems - will it work in a power outage?
  4. Self-defense Training - is helpful in a personal attack.
  5. Pepper Spray & Stun Guns are now legal in NYS - Buy Local @ Lock-N-Load - Owego
  6. Home Defense Gun - the most potentially lethal option so this should only be considered with proper knowledge, training and maximum safety precautions .

  • Hand Guns / Pistol Permits : take several months to acquire and are subject to  approval, following a comprehensive screening process and background-check thru our Tioga Co. Sheriff's Dept.
  • Rifles are  another option and our local experts at Lock-N-Load Sporting Goods is a great place to explore this option.

Patriot Factoid: The Sheriffs Department is the last line of defense against tyranny. We are grateful they're not under the control of our Federal Government or our NYS Governor.

Why Emergency Preparedness Is Critical

Community Prepping

Concerns:

Are you uncertain of where our country is headed? Are you worried that we might face an  unexpected crisis? Are you worried about; food shortages, power black-outs, cyber-attack , more lock-downs, freak storm, medical emergencies, economic collapse? The truth is, nobody knows what to expect. We live in uncertain times and this causes anxiety & stress for many.

Our Response;

We believe that when people know that we are prepared locally to weather any storm, it will help reduce people's anxiety. We would like to bring together those in our community who are interested in "prepping". A trendy way of saying; preparing for unforeseen crisis by becoming more self-reliant and having a local community based Support System already in-place.

Our Goal:

A Patriot led effort towards greater strength and resiliency thru planning, so that we don't have to rely on faceless institutions, government entities and global corporations. We want to help both; families be better prepared to face a crisis and join together for mutual support and  prepare as a community for the unexpected.

Our Reason:

Consider how there wasn't even an adequate mask supply for healthcare workers on the frontlines, when a 'pandemic' hit. Crazy. Do we want to depend on 'them' to help us?  Then consider how NYS fired healthcare workers and withheld their unemployment.  Now, ask yourself is it possible that they would deny emergency food, shelter or medical services to the un-vaccinated? Prepping means prepared for anything. So, it's important to create a local independent support system just incase our government/ outside entities decide to withhold vital resources to the  unvaxxed or simply are not competent or capable of responding to our needs in an emergency.

Our Freedom:

The less we are dependent on state and federal government for help, the more we can maintain our independence, respond quicker and not be subjected to 'conditions' to receive help.

Basic Cornerstones of Preparedness:

  • Information: keeping the public informed and updated with accurate info
  • Local Resources : Food, Water, Shelter, Supplies, Tools & Equipment
  • Security / Neighborhood Checks & Home Defense
  • Medical Supplies & Services
  • Transportation: moving people or resources
  • Support: Knowing who are the most vulnerable in our community & create a plan to support them during a crisis including; the elderly, the isolated, the handicap, those without resources.
  • Networking: Knowing who can do what, special skills, tools and equipment

Different Ways You Can Help:

  • Would you like to work with others to build a Community Emergency Response Team?
  • Are you interested in serving as a Leader or on the planning committee ?
  • Are you interested in a limited role; to help/respond in an actual  crisis.
  • Do you have resources to offer in a crisis; tools, equipment, shelter, etc.?
  • Do you have special skills that would be helpful in any crisis.  Knowing 'who can do what' is a good place to start.
  • We will need people to offer crisis support to the most vulnerable in our community

Important Note: We hope every Patriot will feel inspired to help in some small way, in-order to preserve our collective freedoms. Because; as we are learning; when we  depend on our government or related agencies for help, we can expect that help might come with conditions.

Remember; our freedom comes thru our independence!!

Local Resources For Preppers - Not relying our government

Drinking Water

If our municipal water system goes down or it's contaminated

We are looking to map-out emergency sources for 'drinking water' in our community,  either wells or local spring-water.

We will post a printable map on this site with the info we gather.

Sadly our lovely river isn't drinkable, unless we can figure out the old-fashioned off-grid water filtration & sterilization methods. This is something else we can explore. If you have knowledge and want to  help, let us know.

Emergency Food Bank

Helping those who cannot help themselves

Many Patriots have been anticipating food supply shortages or restrictions and they have been stocking-up on necessities. Yet,  others in our community are either unaware or don't have the resources.

We have already seen some places using the jab as a condition to soup kitchens and food pantries. One way we can support freedom is building our own 'Emergency Food Pantry' for a short -term solution. It's just one initiative we can take to help protect the most vulnerable , but it needs to be combined with other preparedness efforts to sustain for any prolonged crisis.

Does this issue speak to your heart? Would you like to work with others to help organize, source self-stable foods, as well as set ground rules/criteria for distribution in a crisis.

Neighbor Helping Neighbor

 Does this story sound familiar?"

During the 2011 Owego Flood, with 36" of mud water covering the first floor of my home, the Red Cross stopped by on the 3rd day of shoveling river mud out the front door.  They handed me a small mop and pail with the familiar Red Cross logo on it.  All I could think is; 'you've got to be kidding me'. They didn't provide any helpful information on dealing with the flood destruction, no resources, not even a smile. Clearly, this was a Public Relations effort and they weren't  actually there to provide any meaningful help.  I felt very much on my own and very unprepared to deal with the unexpected crisis. But then, as the days unfolded I was grateful for the support I found in our community".

The 2011 flood taught many local families that when a community faces a crisis the best help comes from within the community and neighbor-helping-neighbor. This is a familiar experience of many Tioga Co.  residents and one of the best things about our small community.
